Report finds email phishing attacks on the rise
According to a report from Avanan, a cloud security platform company, phishing and spoofing attacks continue to be a widespread threat: its "Global Phish Report" found that one in every 99 emails is a phishing attack.
According to the report, which analyzed more than 55 million emails across a variety of industries, over the past decade phishing attacks have become the most widespread email threat to affect organizations, advancing in sophistication and evading detection. Of the attacks analyzed, 25 percent bypassed Office 365 security, and more than half contained malware.
Avanan warns that these numbers are likely to increase as hackers take advantage of known vulnerabilities and design new methods. NAFCU continues to monitor this issue and will keep credit unions updated on the latest developments.
NAFCU has cybersecurity compliance resources available online, including a cybersecurity assessment tool workbook; a webinar available on-demand also details how to identify cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities.
