Rounds, Sinema, Vitter added to Caucus speaker list

NAFCU, in ongoing preparations for its Congressional Caucus next month in Washington, has just added Sens. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., and David Vitter, R-La., and Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., to the Caucus speaker slate.

The Caucus, slated Sept. 14-17 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, will feature sessions and discussions on the most important legislative and regulatory issues facing the credit union industry today and techniques for effectively communicating those concerns with legislators and regulators.

Rounds is a member of the Senate Banking Committee and the Armed Services, Veterans' Affairs, and Environment and Public Works committees. Vitter is also a member of the Senate Banking Committee and chairman of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. He also serves on the Environment and Public Works and Judiciary committees.

Sinema is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and lead democratic co-sponsor of NAFCU-backed H.R. 2287, the "National Credit Union Administration Budget Transparency Act," which would require NCUA to provide notice of a public hearing on its budget and invite comments on it.

Other confirmed speakers, among others, include:

  • Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., member of the House Financial Services Committee;
  • Jennifer Shasky-Calvery, director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network;
  • Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee;
  • Donald Layton, Freddie Mac CEO; and
  • Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., both the U.S. House Chief Deputy Majority Whip and vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

The Congressional Caucus, sponsored by NAFCU Services Corporation, MasterCard and CUNA Mutual Group, is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.
