Brady, Tillis join NAFCU's Caucus speaker slate

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Senate Banking Committee member Thom Tillis, R-N.C., are slated to speak to credit union attendees during NAFCU's Congressional Caucus, Sept. 10-13, in Washington.

The Ways and Means Committee is the tax-writing committee of the House. NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger met with Brady in January and emphasized the importance of the credit union tax exemption. NAFCU remains vigilant in educating lawmakers about the value of credit unions and their federal corporate income tax exemption to the nation's economy.

Tillis, in addition to serving on the Senate Banking Committee, also sits on the Senate Armed Services, Veterans' Affairs and Judiciary Committees, and the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

NAFCU's Congressional Caucus, the association's credit union lobbying event of the year, will address the latest developments on tax reform, regulatory relief and other key issues for the credit union industry; attendees will discuss those issues during afternoon meetings with lawmakers and their staffs on Capitol Hill.

Those already slated to speak during Caucus include:

  • House Chief Deputy Whip Patrick McHenry, R-N.C.,
  • House Financial Services Subcommittee Chairman Bill Huizenga, R-Mich.,
  • House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Luke Messer, R-Ind.,
  • Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and
  • Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D.
