Berger meets with Castro at HUD
NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger met with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro on Monday to discuss the top issues affecting credit unions in the housing arena.
Berger and Castro discussed how credit unions are reaching out to communities across the country to help with financial services needs, particularly in underserved areas. Castro expressed appreciation for credit unions' work.
After the meeting, Castro gave remarks in honor of HUD's 50th anniversary, titled "A Year of Progress: Building a Stronger HUD for the Next 50 Years." Castro was sworn in as department secretary in 2014, after previously serving as mayor of San Antonio, Texas.
NAFCU continues to advocate for housing reform that guarantees access to the secondary mortgage market for credit unions, and for fair pricing based on loan quality rather than volume.
