July 12, 2012 – Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a member of the President's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, will speak to credit unions Sept. 12 during NAFCU's Congressional Caucus in Washington.

Hensarling, in his fifth term, also serves on the House Financial Services subcommittees on capital markets, insurance and government-sponsored enterprises and on financial institutions and consumer credit. He was one of three House Republicans chosen to serve on the President's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. He was also co-chair of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction.

The 2012 Caucus, one week after the end of Congress' August recess, will provide participants the opportunity to hear directly from lawmakers and regulators about issues affecting their operations and memberships. Between the general sessions, attendees will meet with lawmakers and staffs in their Capitol Hill offices to discuss what impact this year's legislation on consumer financial services, small-business lending, tax reform and more have on their credit union constituents back home.

Also joining this year's slate are political commentators Jason Cabel Roe and Jimmy Williams – both regular faces on Fox News and MSNBC, respectively. The two will participate in a general session segment that looks at the "Best/Worst of 2012 Campaign Ads and Videos."

Roe has worked on Capitol Hill, at the Patent and Trademark Office, as an advisor in the 2008 Romney presidential campaign and in Rep. Peter Roskam's successful campaign to win the seat representing Illinois' sixth district. Williams too has worked on the Hill and served for seven years as a high-level staffer to Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill. After seven more years as a lobbyist, he cofounded United Republic, a not-for-profit "dedicated to ridding American politics of greed and corruption."
