House panel subpoenas CFPB, NTEU reps
April 30, 2014 – A subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee voted 20-0 Tuesday to authorize subpoenas of two CFPB officials and one union representative in connection with the panel's investigation of alleged discrimination and retaliation at the bureau.
The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., said it subpoenaed Stacey Bach, CFPB's assistant director of equal employment opportunity, Liza Strong, director of employee relations, and Ben Konop, executive vice president of the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents union members working at CFPB.
These individuals were invited to testify in an April 2 hearing on the allegations but did not appear. The allegations were discussed during the hearing by two other witnesses: Angela Martin, a CFPB employee, and Misty Raucci, an outside investigator hired by CFPB.
The hearing followed an article last month in the American Banker regarding alleged employment discrimination and retaliation.
