NAFCU, White House staff talk tax reform, more

NAFCU's Dan Berger and Carrie Hunt met in turn with key White House staff Thursday to share credit unions' views and concerns related to coming work in Congress and the administration on tax reform, regulatory relief, strengthening the economy and jobs growth.

Berger, NAFCU's president and CEO, and Hunt, executive vice president of government affairs and general counsel, held successive meetings with Special Assistant to the President for Tax and Retirement Policy Shahira Knight, who is also part of the National Economic Council; and Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Public Liaison George Sifakis.

NAFCU's top executive and advocacy staff are maintaining regular communications with the administration regarding the value of credit unions' tax-exempt status to credit union members, non-members and the economy at large as work begins on possible tax-reform legislation later this year. The association is also pressing policy makers on the need for regulatory relief that recognizes credit unions' non-profit, member-owned structure and the industry's important contributions to Main Street America.
