5 ways to lead that will make others follow

Dan speakingA strong leader can change a company's culture and drive its success. A true leader inspires and develops others, which, in turn, causes them to willingly follow their lead.

"Effective leaders prepare their employees to carry their mission forward, engaging with present realities while keeping an eye toward the future," writes Serenity Gibbons, Forbes contributor.

Listing five leadership practices worth adopting, she explains that demonstrating the qualities that you want to see in your employees is one of the best ways to develop that talent in your organization. Gibbons' list includes:

  1. Adopt a democratic approach to innovation. If you want to be the kind of leader that people will follow, make sure everyone has a voice.
  2. Make inclusivity a core value. True leaders understand the value of a diverse environment.
  3. Chart a course, and hold employees accountable. Clearly define your goals so your team knows what is expected of them.
  4. Seek out feedback, especially when you don't want to hear it. While criticisms can be hard to hear, they provide insights that allow us to learn and grow.
  5. Invite employees to learn from your mistakes. Help your employees avoid the mistakes you've made.

Remember, leadership is a skill that needs to practiced and cultivated.
