Where do you stand as a leader?

Dan BergerLeaders are not rare. Every sector of business has them – good and bad. When evaluating the performance and abilities of great leaders, do you ever wonder how you stack up?

Marcel Schwantes, principal and founder of Leadership From the Core, lists seven "reality checks" that can help today's leaders know where they stand. His list includes:

  1. Great leaders give others the glory.
  2. Great leaders understand how to meet the needs of others.
  3. Great leaders accept constructive feedback.
  4. Great leaders speak from the heart.
  5. Great leaders foster healthy conflict and debate.
  6. Great leaders foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the workplace.
  7. Great leaders manage from the bottom up.

At some point, we all must stop, look in the mirror and be honest with ourselves and about our leadership abilities and tactics. If we are willing to measure ourselves up to the high standards and behaviors of really great leaders, then we can really begin to improve and grow in our techniques and skills.
