COVID-19 Leads to Surge in Unemployment Insurance Fraud

The COVID-19 pandemic has been uncharted and difficult for financial institutions and consumers alike. As everyone has adjusted to a new normal and tried to stay safe, the industry has become a breeding ground for fraud relating to unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. State unemployment programs have been overwhelmed and under prepared for the massive influx of claims which began in March 2020. As the number of claims have continued to grow each week, so have the scams.
