GAO on Regulator Reform

Yesterday, GAO released it latest term paper.  This one is titled "A Framework for Crafting and Assessing Proposals to Modernize the Outdated U.S. Financial Regulatory System."  You can access it here.

From my quick read, GAO isn't calling for any one action - such as the dissolution of Treasury or having NCUA regulate all financial institutions.  (Joke, people. That was a joke.)  Rather, their report lists a number of factors that they think folks should consider when they think about reforming the financial regulatory system. Page 3 lays out the nine factors.

Whatever you may think about the report, it does a good job of laying out the history of the financial regulatory system.  (It is a fairly interesting read, if I can say that without painting a very geeky picture of myself.)  For those tracking this issue, which started with Treasury's "Blueprint," this is a must read.

Have a great weekend, everyone.  I have a couple of cribs to put together.  Wish me luck.
