Regulatory Compliance Counsel

The National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU) seeks a Regulatory Compliance Counsel, experience with consumer financial services regulations preferred. The counsel will provide our members with accurate, timely, and comprehensive assistance on federal regulations impacting credit unions, particularly those issued by the NCUA and the CFPB.

You have at least a year of experience working with federal regulations, preferably related to consumer financial products and services. You have strong research, writing, and organizational skills and enjoy taking ownership of projects and improving processes. You can independently prioritize a varied workload, balance multiple tasks and projects without missing deadlines, and work efficiently while generating high quality work product. You like public speaking and can communicate complex ideas to a layperson audience. Experience working at a credit union or financial institution and an interest in credit unions are highly desired.

What you'll do:

The counsel’s primary responsibility is to provide direct responses to credit union inquiries through NAFCU’s Compliance Helpline. The counsel is also responsible for developing and producing regulatory compliance assistance materials, writing articles and blogs, and may assist in creating educational content. The counsel also has public speaking responsibilities and will teach educational sessions to audiences of all sizes multiple times a year.

Position Requirements:

  • Law degree and bar membership
  • At least one year of experience interpreting laws and regulations governing a heavily regulated industry with a preference for individuals with experience with the laws and regulations related to consumer financial services (e.g., accounts, lending, etc.). 
  • In-house operational experience at a credit union or other financial institution highly desired
  • Strong research skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to speak publicly to audiences of various sizes both in-person, in virtual events, and in webinars
  • Strong time management skills for handling multiple tasks, setting priorities, focusing on detail, and organizing workflow with minimal supervision 
  • Some travel required (2-3 weeks per year), once we return to in-person conferences
  • This position is located in Arlington, VA

Recent graduates may rely on a combination of education and relevant internship experience to satisfy the qualifying experience requirement. Recent graduates must provide a copy of a transcript showing coursework relevant to this position and a resume reflecting the time spent in relevant internship positions.   EOE
