Meet NAFCU: Reginald Watson

Reginald Watson

NAFCU Compliance Counsel

Reginald Watson, known affectionately as Reggie, has been at NAFCU since 2017 as Regulatory Compliance Counsel, helping to provide NAFCU's members with compliance assistance while also monitoring different compliance developments that may arise from the NCUA, CFPB and other regulatory agencies.

In addition to monitoring credit union compliance deadlines, Watson, along with other members of the regulatory compliance team, manages and answers questions from member credit unions on a variety of compliance matters. Also referred to as the "Z-box," Watson is responsible for handling requests from members that range from the Military Lending Act (MLA), Regulation E and new mortgage servicing rules to advertising disclosures.

While having in-depth knowledge on relatively all credit union compliance matters, Watson's evolving expertise is related to customer due diligence and general credit union compliance risk issues. Watson showcases his knowledge at NAFCU's Regulatory Compliance Schools, where he teaches school attendees basic compliance issues, such as Vendor Management, Share Insurance and Truth in Savings. He also writes blog posts and articles covering top compliance issues including his recent blog post on S. 2155.

Reggie is an avid traveler having volunteered several times in Haiti and most recently spent time in Zimbabwe assisting local villages to gain access to essential medical, dental and vision resources. Along with his extensive volunteering efforts, Reggie formally served as the clinic director of the Christian Legal Aid of DC, a nonprofit legal services organization.

As more compliance deadlines come down the pike, NAFCU has the tools to better prepare the credit union industry—thanks to contributions from NAFCU's knowledgeable Compliance team!
