Life is Like Burger King

Written by Anthony Demangone

Last week, I visited family near Boston for Thanksgiving.  It was a grand time. This photo of Kate and her cousin Teddy pretty much sums up the mood from the visit.

Cousins
The trip back, however, was anything but smiles.  Traffic backed up on the New York Thruway, the New Jersey Turnpike, I-95, and you name it.  I think there was even a back up in my driveway when I got home.

There comes that time in a trip, when panic is about to set in.  That is when one of your kids, or all of them, say one of the following.  I have to go potty.  Or..I'm hungry.

We had neither a bathroom or snacks handy for some reason.  So my eyes glanced at for the next rest stop, hoping it would have a restaurant.  I saw the tell-tale blue sign in the distance.  A rest stop! The restaurant?  Burger King.

My heart sank a little.  The marketers at McDonalds have worked their magic on Kate and Briggs. McDonalds is a treat.  Burger King?  It isn't on their toddler radar. But we decided to "brave" it - to make the best of it.

And that reminded me of an old Burger King ad campaign.  Burger King  - have it your way.  The thought was simple...you could customize your meal, burger, side, to have it just like you want it.

And so it is with life.  I'm convinced that life is a lot like Burger King.  You'll have it your way.

If you want to see problems, you'll find them.

If you want to see progress, you'll see it.

If you expect to see hurdles and obstacles, you'll encounter them.

And If you look for opportunities, you'll find them.

It never fails to amaze me how my personal outlook tends to drive a given situation.  If I have the right frame of mind, the rest often takes care of itself.

So, McDonalds, you may have the McNuggets and little toys that my kids yearn to have.  But today, I have to tip my hat to the King.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
