Life's Springboards, and three little questions

Written by Anthony Demangone

Everyone appears to be busy.

And I mean everyone. Even Kate and Briggs say that their workload has doubled in the past two years.

In a recent survey, many of you pointed to work overload as your primary challenge.

There are so many things outside of our control.  But the wonderful thing is this - the list of things we can control includes three very important areas.

I call them life's springboards.  Sleep. Exercise. And a healthy diet.

When you get all three working for you, the results are amazing. Would nailing all three take work off our plate? Nope. But I believe it would allow you to get more done, and get it done better.

So, here are three simple questions.

  1. Are you getting enough sleep? Research puts that number between seven and eight hours.
  2. Are you getting enough exercise? Amazing things happen when you can get as little as 20 to 30 minutes a day.
  3. Is your diet where it should be?

As I look at this list, I can honestly answer no to each question.  Now, I've made improvements with exercise and diet, but I'm not where I should be. Sleep? Don't get me started.

And I'd bet dollars to donuts carrot sticks that if I nailed all three, the rest of my life would improve. Dramatically.

And here's another thought. If you agree with me that sleep, exercise and a good diet are life's springboards, what should we do as organizations to promote all three?Â
