HUD Federal Credit Union Washington, D.C.
Q: What led you to the credit union sector and to HUD Federal Credit Union?
A: I was working for the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC) Eastern Region in 1986 when that division decided to move from Washington, D.C., to Atlanta. I chose not to move, and instead I began my credit union career as CFO of Justice Federal Credit Union. My experience at Justice, as well as my time at FSLIC as a senior member of the accounting team sent to close savings and loans throughout the country, developed my skills as a “change agent.” The majority of my credit union experience has been in turnaround or troubled situations, eventually leading to my current role as president and CEO at HUD Federal Credit Union. HUD FCU had been languishing for years and was in significant decline. The board of directors decided to bring me in to turn it around and make it successful and relevant.
