FFIEC updates cybersecurity resource guide

FFIECThe Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) updated its “Cybersecurity Resource Guide for Financial Institutions” Tuesday. The FFIEC wrote that the purpose of the guide is to “help financial institutions meet their security control objectives and prepare to respond to cyber incidents.” The update to the guide reflects the increase of ransomware attacks and includes “ransomware-specific resources to address this ongoing threat.”

A majority of the guide’s identified resources are free government resources, including CISA Cyber Resources – which were previously shared with attendees of NAFCU’s 2022 Congressional Caucus by Treasury Department Director of International Coordination and Mission Support Brian Peretti.

The listed resources in the guide can assist in the performance of cyber assessments, tabletop exercises, information sharing, and ransomware prevention. The press release notes that “FFIEC member organizations do not endorse the listed entities or tools identified therein.”

NAFCU will continue to promote the publication and development of free cybersecurity resources to improve the credit union industry's security and resilience to cyber threats.
