Berger profiled in hometown paper
Feb. 11, 2014 – NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger was profiled in his hometown newspaper, The Gainesville Sun, in an article focusing on his lobbying achievements in Washington and roots in Florida.
Berger told the paper that while lobbyists are often viewed negatively, lobbying for the credit union industry is different: "We're the white hat in financial services. We didn't cause the financial crisis, so to be a lobbyist for this organization is a blessing, so it's an easy job to do."
The paper noted that Berger has been named one of the most influential lobbyists by The Hill for 11 years in a row.
Berger reminisced about his first political volunteering experience in eighth grade, helping out with a friend's father's campaign for the state senate, and how it led to his career in Washington, which included serving as chief of staff for Rep. Katherine Harris. He said he tries to visit Gainesville at least once a year.
