Hunt's CU advocacy featured in The Hill
NAFCU Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt and her efforts to defend the credit union industry were featured yesterday in The Hill. The Hill selects only a handful of Washington leaders to highlight each year.
In the feature, "Going to bat for credit unions," reporter Sylvan Lane dives into Hunt's lifelong interest in law and regulation and how it helped propel NAFCU's advocacy efforts, contributing to industry wins during a time of political unpredictability. The article also highlights Hunt's passion for the credit union industry and how her unique role of serving as both head of government affairs and as general counsel has helped lead credit unions forward.
"I truly do think credit unions provide the best financial services for the American consumer, and using my skills and abilities as an attorney and as a lobbyist to try to create the best environment for credit unions to do more is what gets me excited," Hunt said.
The article details key wins Hunt and NAFCU achieved just this year, including keeping the NCUA out of the congressional appropriations process, exempting credit union payday alternative loans from the CFPB's payday lending rule and repealing the CFPB's arbitration rule.
"The credit union industry is doing well, but it's not because of regulation, it's in spite of it," Hunt said. "Credit unions have continued to put their head down and do what they did best, had to deal with all this noise of changing all the paperwork and rules on mortgages."
