NAFCU's advocacy garners national media attention
As Congress considers additional coronavirus relief legislation, NAFCU's advocacy efforts have garnered attention from the national media. Of note, NAFCU is leading the charge to ensure a portion of potential additional funding for the Small Business Administration's paycheck protection program (PPP) is set aside for credit unions and other community financial institutions.
In a Wall Street Journal article, published yesterday, NAFCU’s Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt noted that the earmarked funds would add “an extra layer of protection so [credit union members are not] left behind.”
Hunt’s commentary on the PPP's rollout has also appeared in the New York Times, Bloomberg, Reuters and the Washington Post.
As lawmakers are expected to be in their home districts and states until May 4, NAFCU’s government affairs team is keeping in close contact with them and their staff to advocate for greater relief measures so credit unions can better assist their members during the coronavirus pandemic.
The attention that NAFCU and credit unions have received by these top-tier media outlets will help in the association’s push to deliver strong legislative wins for the credit union industry and its 120 million members nationwide.
