Senate confirms Rosenworcel as FCC Chairwoman
Yesterday the Senate confirmed Jessica Rosenworcel as Chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) by a 68-31 vote. This confirmation makes Rosenworcel the first confirmed FCC Chairwoman in the FCC’s 87-year history.
In October, President Joe Biden nominated Rosenworcel as Chairwoman of the FCC. First nominated to the FCC by President Barack Obama in 2012, Rosenworcel was named acting FCC Chairwoman by Biden in January. To date, the FCC has had only one other acting FCC Chairwoman, Mignon Clyburn, who led the FCC for roughly seven months in 2013.
NAFCU met with Rosenworcel in February to discuss the FCC’s order codifying exemptions to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). NAFCU routinely meets with FCC staff regarding issues important to credit unions. In October, NAFCU joined with other organizations to ask that the agency delay, if necessary, but not eliminate implementation of new uniform call blocking standards that will ensure credit unions are able to more reliably reach their members.
The association will continue to work with the FCC and advocate to ensure credit unions can contact their members regarding important, time-sensitive information, without fear of frivolous litigation.
