Becker marks National Volunteer Week
April 17, 2012 – This is National Volunteer Week, and NAFCU President Fred Becker observed the event in a message Friday thanking credit union volunteers for their dedication and service to the credit union community.
Becker said the theme for this year's observance, "Celebrating People in Action," encapsulates what credit union volunteers represent: people who dedicate themselves to taking action and providing opportunities and solutions in their communities.
Volunteers – credit union members – are elected to serve on credit union boards and also make up the supervisory committees, credit committees and more.
"Our industry has received countless accolades as a result of Bank Transfer Day last fall," the NAFCU president wrote. "National Volunteer Week provides yet another opportunity for us to seize the moment and share our good news stories about the extraordinary service credit unions provide under your leadership."
The week of April 15-21 was proclaimed National Volunteer Week last Monday by President Obama. The proclamation says the week is a time to "pay tribute to all who give of themselves to keep America strong."
