Credit unions have reached out to NAFCU asking how to help others in light of recent disasters in areas
around the country, especially recent hurricanes. NAFCU has developed a guide for credit unions to support disaster relief, including ways to make donations and provide services to impacted credit unions.

A disaster declaration has been issued, making federal assistance available to federally-insured credit unions. NCUA offers credit unions and their members a variety of resources under its disaster assistance policy.
FEMA has a host of resources for those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, including information on the National Flood Insurance Program and filing claims.
The Florida Office of Financial Regulation has issued a Proclamation allowing credit unions to close and remain closed until emergency conditions no longer exist. The National Credit Union Foundation's CUAid relief system has been activated. The program raises money for the Foundation's Disaster Relief Fund which directly connects with area leagues to disburse funds through a grant program.

Credit unions that offer small business loans through the SBA may be interested in the Administration's Disaster Loan Program. The SBA's Hurricane Harvey Recovery website includes information about SBA disaster assistance program and available 12-month payment deferments for borrowers in hurricane affected areas.
