Congress passes CR, narrowly avoiding a shutdown

CapitolCongress reached an agreement on Thursday evening and passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through March 11. The Senate passed the House CR after Congressional leaders reached an “overarching agreement” to boost military and non-defense budgets, paving the way for a comprehensive deal to fund the government into the fall.

The short term bill took several attempts to hold a vote as different circumstances arose during the process, but there was still bipartisan consensus on getting it passed.

Still, the work for Congress is not yet complete, as they continue to try and pass a funding package to fund both the military and nondefense agencies through September. NAFCU continues to monitor the government funding legislation and will notify credit unions on the latest news surrounding the process. Stay tuned to NAFCU Today for the latest from Washington.
