CU Cherry Blossom Race: $450k raised for Children’s Miracle Network
Sunday's Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run brought runners from all over the country to the Washington, D.C., Monument grounds for an annual competition that has helped raise more than $10.3 million for Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals since credit unions became the event sponsors. This year's Credit Union Cherry Blossom event raised $450,000 for CMN Hospitals.
“NAFCU is honored to continue our partnership with this remarkable event that helps children’s hospitals across the country receive much-needed resources and support," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. "The mission behind the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run is a perfect illustration of the dedication and compassion credit unions have for their members and the greater communities they serve. We are inspired by the participating credit unions, runners, and volunteers who came together in support of our nation’s children.”
Vice Chair of the NAFCU Board of Directors Brian Schools, President and CEO of Chartway Federal Credit Union (Virginia Beach, Va.), helped hold the finish-line ribbon for first-place runners in yesterday's races. The first-place female runner was Sarah Chelangat who finished in 52 minutes, 4 seconds; the first-place male runner was Tsegay Kidanu who ran a new course record and finished in 46:08.
NAFCU has been a partner in the run since 2002 and this year marks the 22nd year it was sponsored by credit unions. This year, the Cherry Blossom Committee is celebrating the run’s 50th anniversary. Berger offered congratulatory remarks for the organization in honor of the anniversary.
