CU leaders gather in Chicago for MLI conference
Credit union leaders from around the country are gathering this week in Chicago for NAFCU's 2015 Management and Leadership Institute, which has sold out for the fourth straight year.
The conference began yesterday and runs through Friday, Oct. 16, at the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile.
"Our MLI continues to be an essential program for credit union leaders that want to learn about every aspect of operating a credit union," said Anthony Demangone, NAFCU's executive vice president and COO, and an MLI faculty member. "This conference will teach students the building blocks of what makes an excellent credit union leader and how to manage a successful team."
On Monday, leadership guru John Spence returned to the conference to present his full-day workshop, "The Leader of the Future." Each student received a free, signed copy of Spence's book, "Awesomely Simple: Essential Business Strategies for Turning Ideas Into Action."
Today, attendees will hear Demangone discuss how to manage compliance risk and the 15 big ideas that affect credit union executives. They will also hear a presentation on effective executive communication from communications expert Stacey Hanke, founder of Stacey Hanke, Inc.
Other slated conference speakers include:
- Peter Myers, vice president of DDJ Myers, Ltd., a NAFCU Services Preferred Partner;
- Jennifer Kuhn, speaker and program manager of Jennifer Kuhn, LLC;
- Karen Rosales, president and CEO of Arlington Community Federal Credit Union;
- Rodney Showmar, president and CEO of Arkansas Federal Credit Union;
- Matt Stratton, senior vice president of marketing of Tinker Federal Credit Union; and
- Glenn Strebe, president and CEO of Air Academy Federal Credit Union.
Attendees will also receive free, signed copies of NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger's and Demangone's book, "Managing and Leading Well: It Ain't Rocket Science, But It's Still Hard Work!"
A complete schedule of MLI, which NAFCU Services Corporation is a sponsor of, can be viewed online. Updates will be posted by @NAFCU on Twitter with the hashtag #NAFCUInstitute.
Next year's MLI conference is slated for Oct. 17-21, 2016, in Annapolis, Md.
