CUs encouraged to attend NCUA's DEI Summit, scheduled for November

NCUAThe NCUA Monday announced the dates for its second Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Summit, happening virtually Nov. 2-4. The summit brings together industry professionals and leaders who are committed to advancing DEI for a forum to share best practices, address challenges, and learn how the NCUA can support the industry in its efforts.

To address today's most pressing DEI issues, the theme of this year's event is "From Intention to Action."

“This will be a powerful and thought-provoking conversation on the business case for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the credit union system and beyond,” said NCUA Chairman Todd Harper in a press release on the summit. “Embracing the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion is vital to the continued health and success of the credit union system because it leads to better consumer protection, greater innovation, improved solutions, and increased membership. I look forward to joining in this timely and critical conversation.”

The summit will feature Chairman Harper, Vice Chairman Kyle Hauptman, Board Member Rodney Hood, and other prominent keynote speakers.

During the NCUA's first DEI Summit in 2019, NAFCU Director of Regulatory Affairs Ann Kossachev  led a think-tank exercise to generate conversation and solutions to existing and emerging challenges related to advancing DEI.

NAFCU is committed to DEI and is supportive of NCUA efforts to ensure the financial inclusion of all Americans. A feature in the association's March-April The NAFCU Journal highlights ways credit unions are enhancing their DEI to reflect their communities.
