Engage attendees hear from CU leaders, industry experts on lending trends, digital payments, more
The first day of Engage 2023: NAFCU’s Annual Conference got underway yesterday with a welcome speech from NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, two stellar keynote speeches – one from Jon Petz and another from Shep Hyken – and several information-packed sessions throughout the day.
Here’s a look at topics attendees explored:
Allied Solutions CEO Pete Hilger provided attendees with a deep dive into the latest trends and challenges in today’s lending environment during a session on accelerating growth and innovation. In addition, Digital Growth Institute Founder and CEO James Robert Lay detailed what credit unions need to know about consumers’ behavioral shift in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape and how credit unions can be a beacon of trust.
Following those sessions, credit union executives and board members split up to join various breakout sessions on the industry’s hottest topics. The executive breakout sessions tackled:
- technology trends shaping credit unions today, presented by Nuvision Credit Union Senior Vice President of Information Technology Jothi Govindaraj;
- digital and physical card payment developments, including digital wallets, cardless transactions, peer-to-peer payment developments, and more, presented by Neural Payments Co-founder and CEO Mick Oppy; and
- the current state of lending and emerging opportunities, presented by State Department Federal Credit Union Managing Director of Lending Don DiMatteo.
In addition, NAFCU Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Ann Petros detailed what's happening in Washington D.C. She reviewed the top regulatory issues affecting the industry, including the CFPB's attach on "junk fees," recently proposed NCUA final rules and the Environmental Protection Agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
Meanwhile, the board breakout sessions reviewed:
- succession planning, presented by DDJ Myers CEO Deedee Myers; and
- key financial ratios for board’s to review, presented by University of Michigan Credit Union CFO Tom Kuslikis.
