EPA announces $20B in GHGR Fund grant competitions

EPAThe Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Friday announced it launched two funding opportunity notices totaling $20 billion across two grant competitions under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction (GHGR) Fund. The EPA noted “these competitive grant opportunities will mobilize private capital into clean technology projects."

$14 billion will be allocated to the National Clean Investment Fund and aims to provide grants to support “clean financing institutions, enabling them to partner with the private sector to provide accessible, affordable financing for tens of thousands of clean technology projects nationwide.” The remaining $6 billion will be allocated to the Clean Communities Investment Accelerator and will provide grants to nonprofits, allowing them to fund communities as they deploy clean technologies.

Applications are due Oct. 12 and notification of selections will occur in March 2024.

NAFCU wrote to the EPA in June to request clarification on potential design issues with the implementation of the GHGR Fund. The association also discussed the GHGR Fund with the NCUA Board earlier this year. NAFCU will continue to work with the EPA to ensure credit union participation and maximize the GHGR Fund’s impact.
