Meghan Burris to Lead NAFCU Communications and Media Relations

Meghan BurrisWASHINGTON - The National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions announced today the hiring of Meghan Burris as the Vice President of Communications and Media Relations. She brings more than a decade of experience in financial services and regulatory policy communications to lead the association's overarching communications and media engagement strategy.  

“Meghan brings an outstanding communications background and a well-rounded understanding of the financial services sector to NAFCU,” said Dan Berger, NAFCU President and CEO. “Her strategic leadership and experience working for several key agencies and leaders in Congress will be integral as we bolster our bold advocacy agenda and work to best represent the credit union industry and its 127 million members."

As vice president, Burris will oversee NAFCU's communications and media relations division and help drive the organization's public policy communications and messaging strategy.

Burris previously led the Office of Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Commerce where she oversaw communications for the agency’s 12 bureaus, including the Economic Development Administration, Bureau of Economic Analysis, the U.S. Census Bureau, Minority Business Development Agency, and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.

Under the previous Administration, Burris led the White House Office of Media Affairs where she developed and executed the Administration-wide state and local media strategy for the President. Burris has also held communications leadership roles within the White House Office of Management and Budget, the U.S. Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives. Burris began her career in public policy communications at The Herald Group, where she effectively developed communications advocacy campaigns to influence lawmakers and industry stakeholders on behalf of several leading trade associations

Burris received her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Maryland, College Park.
