NAFCU attends kick-off for CU Cherry Blossom race

CMN Check Presentation
NAFCU and other credit union industry representatives present the $400,000 check raised by this year's Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run to the Children's Miracle Network.

NAFCU joined with other industry groups and credit union representatives at the U.S. Capitol Thursday to kick-off this year's Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, which takes place Sunday in Washington. NAFCU Chair Jeanne Kucey, president and CEO of JetStream Federal Credit Union, will assist in holding the finish-line ribbon for Sunday's race.

Proceeds from the 2019 race, totaling $400,000, were donated to Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals during a check presentation at Thursday's event. Since credit unions began sponsoring this race in 2002, more than $9.5 million has been raised for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

NAFCU and its member credit unions helped raise almost $72,000 for CMN in 2018.

NAFCU Vice President of Membership and Sales Catherine Safady spoke at Thursday's event, noting NAFCU's proud support of the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and CMN. She also highlighted the importance of working together to support communities and causes such as CMN.

More than 27,000 runners submitted applications to participate in the 2019 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-mile and 5K run-walk. However, the event is limited to 16,000 finishers by the National Park Service; accepted runners represent all 50 states and 14 countries.

This will be the 47th Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. on the Washington Monument Grounds. NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger and other NAFCU staff will also attend the race.
