NAFCU, CUNA ask NCUA to improve speaker request process

NCUA logoNAFCU and CUNA wrote the NCUA Friday to recommend improvements to the agency’s request forms for board members and staff to participate in various speaking engagements. The NCUA is seeking approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for a new information collection related to the forms.

To improve the speaker request process, NAFCU and CUNA recommended that that NCUA:

  • streamline request forms by reevaluating existing forms to ensure all fields are relevant to certain meeting requirements, and to make some fields optional;
  • enhance visibility of the process by detailing directly to credit unions and on the agency’s website the requirements for requesting a meeting, specifically for a meeting with agency staff;
  • provide status updates on the request process, including a point of contact who is moving the request through the approval process; and
  • share aggregate information on the number of meeting requests received and the number of meetings granted, including whether at the board or staff level.

The associations said these improvements would increase transparency between the agency and the industry. Read the letter.
