This year's honorary co-hosts for the event were Sens. Jack Reed, D-R.I., Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., and Tim Scott, R-S.C. All three are members of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection.
The event began in 2003 and is sponsored by the Council for Economic Education, Junior Achievement and the Jump$tart Coalition. It features exhibitors from the financial education community as well as presentations from speakers about top financial literacy issues.
April is National Financial Literacy Month, which puts the focus on helping consumers maintain a solid understanding of personal financial matters that will serve them well through all life stages. NAFCU's upcoming Economic & CU Monitor report will further detail credit unions' financial literacy efforts.
NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz on Tuesday further encouraged credit unions to use the agency's financial literacy resources, including the financial literacy site Pocket Cents, to provide members with information about saving, borrowing, managing credit and protecting themselves from fraud.
Consumers can find out about credit unions in their area, membership requirements and product offerings via CULookup.com, maintained by NAFCU Services Corporation.
