NAFCU Statement on House Judiciary Committee Approval of H.R. 9, the 'Innovation Act'

Washington (June 11, 2015) - National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) President and CEO Dan Berger issued the following statement in response to the bipartisan approval today by the House Judiciary Committee of H.R. 9, the "Innovation Act."

"We applaud Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Ranking Member John Conyers, D-Mich, and all the committee members for their commitment and leadership in working to solidify the legislation that would combat abuse by patent assertion entities," said Berger. "The healthy debate at the markup shows that the committee members recognize the pressing need for patent reform. While we are pleased that the legislation will prevent some egregious behavior, we hope the House will come together to provide relief from demand letters and ensure more opportunities to challenge low-quality patents."

H.R. 9 is now headed to the House for consideration.

The National Association of Federal Credit Unions is the only national trade association that exclusively represents the interests of federally chartered credit unions before the federal government and the public.
