NAFCU this week advocating for CUs at White House, FCC, DOJ

NAFCU this week has shared credit unions' top concerns with President Donald Trump and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Today, the association will continue its advocacy efforts at the Justice Department (DOJ) and at a roundtable discussion on small-business lending with the Small Business Administration (SBA).

DOJ

NAFCU senior staff will meet today with the DOJ Disability Rights Section to discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the need for clear guidance and standards for website accessibility requirements under the act. Credit unions, banks and other entities have faced a rash of lawsuits in the past year related to website accessibility – NAFCU is aware of demand letters and litigation in at least 24 states. Two credit unions' lawsuits over ADA have been dismissed this year.

More on today's DOJ meeting can be read here; resources for dealing with the ADA issue can be found here.

Small Business Lending roundtable

Today, NAFCU Regulatory Affairs Counsel Ann Kossachev and Regulatory and Legislative Assistant Sarah Jacobs will attend a small business lending roundtable featuring SBA Administrator Linda McMahon at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The event will examine the current state of small business lending and how it can be enhanced. The financial services needed and challenges of serving these businesses will also be addressed.
