Registration still open for NCUA's FOM strategies webcast

Registration is still open for NCUA's free webcast, "Successful Strategies for Field-of-Membership Expansion," at 2 p.m. Eastern March 25.

Webcast speakers include Vanessa Lowe, an economic development specialist in NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives; Ynette Gibbs, CEO of Washington-based Newrizons Federal Credit Union; and staff from NCUA's Office of Consumer Protection.

Speakers will focus on how to use data to maximize membership growth, how to pair a business plan with applying for a field-of-membership expansion, and Newrizons' experience with its expansion. Attendees can register and submit questions in advance on NCUA's website.

NAFCU has been pressing NCUA to improve the agency's current chartering and FOM rules. The association has recommended legislative changes in its five-point plan for credit union regulatory relief regarding FOM and regulatory action in its "Top Ten" list of rules to fix or eliminate. It also convened a task force of association members to examine issues related to FOM rules and develop detailed recommendations for regulatory and legislative change.

Recently, NAFCU Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt wrote an editorial for Credit Union Journal pushing for more flexible FOM requirements.
