Senate hearings on housing, cybersecurity this week
NAFCU will be on Capitol Hill monitoring several hearings this week, including a Senate Banking subcommittee hearing on inequality and the housing market and a full committee hearing on cybersecurity.
The Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation and Community Development hearing, scheduled for today at 11 a.m., is titled "Inequality, Opportunity, and the Housing Market." Witnesses include representatives from New Jersey Community Capital, the Center for American Progress, the National Association of Realtors, and the National Fair Housing Alliance.
Tomorrow, the full committee will hold a 10 a.m. hearing on "Cybersecurity: Enhancing Coordination to Protect the Financial Sector." Witnesses include representatives from the Treasury Department, the Homeland Security Department, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the U.S. Secret Service, and the FBI.
Last week, on Cyber Monday, NAFCU sent a letter to members of Congress urging lawmakers to act on data and cybersecurity legislation during the current lame-duck session. The letter was highlighted in a POLITICO Morning Cybersecurity article, which pointed to NAFCU's leadership in calling for national data security standards for merchants.
NAFCU was the first financial trade group to ramp up the call for national data security standards for retailers in the wake of last year's Target breach.
