March 12, 2012 – Shelley Clarke, who passed away last Thursday after an extended illness, was a dedicated and supportive member of the credit union community for more than 25 years, and she will be greatly missed, NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker said Friday.
"Shelley's service on the NAFCU Board made the board better and made NAFCU better," Becker said. "She was dedicated to her family and her credit union. NAFCU's staff and board members will keep her family and friends in our thoughts and prayers."
Clarke had served as president and CEO of Goldenwest FCU in Ogden, Utah. She joined the NAFCU Board in August 2008 to fill an unexpired term and won reelection to a three-year term in 2009. She left her positions on the board and at Goldenwest last year.
The former credit union leader was involved in a wide range of credit union and business organizations throughout her career. She had served on the NAFCU Region V Advisory Committee, as chair of the Utah League of Credit Unions, on the Governor's Advisory Board for Credit Unions in Utah, on CUNA's Governmental Affairs Subcommittee and on the Filene Research Council. She had also served as vice chair of SunCorp Corporate CU and as chair of Network Services Inc.; and at the Association of Union Pacific Railroad Credit Unions and the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce.
She was honored as Woman of the Year by the Ogden chapter of the Professional Business Women of America. She was also recognized as one of the top businesswomen in Utah in 2001.
Her credit union, Goldenwest, received NAFCU's Federal Credit Union of the Year Award in 2007.
Clarke was educated at Weber State University and the Credit Union Management School at the University of Wisconsin. She is survived by her husband and two sons.
