This week: Congress out, NAFCU meets with FinCEN
Lawmakers are working in their home districts and state offices for the next two weeks, providing a great opportunity for credit unions to reach out on top industry issues, including the ongoing push for regulatory relief and data security. NAFCU this week is also meeting with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
NAFCU's Grassroots Action Center allows credit unions to find contact information for their lawmakers and look up key credit union-related legislation to see where their members of Congress stand on those bills.
Credit unions can send letters, tweets, Facebook messages and also call their lawmakers concerning the current active campaigns on the Grassroots Action Center, which concern data security legislation and regulatory relief efforts.
*UPDATE: Thursday's meeting with FinCEN has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
Also this week is a couple NAFCU webcasts:
- "Changes to TILA/RESPA Mortgage Servicing Rules Affecting Bankruptcy," airing at 2 p.m. Eastern Tuesday, will give credit unions all the information they need to know before the April 18 compliance deadline. During the webcast, credit unions will learn which lenders and servicers are affected by the changes, early intervention requirements, consequences of incompliance and more.
- "FASB Update: Responding to Implementation Issues, Current Challenges and the Year Ahead," airing 2 p.m. Eastern Thursday, will provide an update on the Financial Accounting Standards Board's (FASB) current implementation issues, how the FASB is responding to the recent tax law changes and the board's 2018 projects.
