NAFCU's 2016 Congressional Caucus Kicks Off in Nation's Capital

Washington (Sept. 19, 2016)-Credit unionleaders from around the country are gathering today to kick off the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU)2016 Congressional Caucuswith one of the largest turnout in recent years. Caucus runs through Wednesday morning at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.
"With so many vital credit union issues at stake amid this exciting election season, Congressional Caucus attendees will be in the perfect place at a critical time to engage with their U.S. representatives and senators," said NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger, who will kick off today's opening general session. "Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with their lawmakers in person to speak about their concerns."
S.E. Cupp, a nationally syndicated author, columnist and CNN political commentator, will provide the Caucus keynote address during today's general session.
Also on today's speaker slate are:
- Holly Petraeus, Assistant Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Office of Servicemember Affairs;
- Brian J. Peretti, Acting Director of the Treasury's Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Compliance Policy; and
- Jamal El-Hindi, Acting Director of Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
Tuesday, Caucus participants will hear from:
- Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.;
- Rep. Mike Rounds, R-S.D.;
- Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas;
- Rick Metsger, National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman;
- Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich.;
- Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif.;
- Rep. Sandy Levin, D-Mich.;
- Harriet Tregoning, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Community Planning and Development at the Department of Housing and Urban Development;
- Rep. Mick Mulvaney R-S.C.;
- Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., House of Representatives Chief Deputy Majority Whip and House Financial Services Committee Vice Chairman;
- Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb.;
- Rep. Frank Guinta, R-N.H.; and
- Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala.
Wednesday, speakers at Caucus include:
- Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray;
- Rep Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo.;
- Rep. Andy Barr R-Ky.;
- Rep Bill Huizenga, R-Mich.;
- Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis.;
- Rep.Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas;
- Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas; Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee;
- Rep. French Hill, R-Ark.;
- Rep. Denny Heck, D-Wash;
- RepJoyce Beatty, D-Ohio; and
- Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee.
Other highlights of the Caucus include recognition of the 2016 Paul Revere Award winner. The award recognizes the credit union grassroots activist of the year.
The Caucus features general sessions and discussions on the most important legislative and regulatory issues facing the credit union industry today and techniques for effectively communicating credit unions' concerns with legislators and regulators. Capitol Hill visits with lawmakers and numerous networking events at popular Washington establishments are also on the agenda.
