CFPB warns about mortgage data reporting
The CFPB warned 44 mortgage lenders and brokers Thursday that they may be in violation of requirements to collect, record and report data about their housing-related lending activity under the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
"Financial institutions that fail to report mortgage information as required make it harder to identify and address discriminatory lending," said CFPB Director Richard Cordray. "No mortgage lender that is required to report their loan data can avoid this responsibility."
The CFPB said the companies were identified through analyzing available bank and nonbank mortgage data. The bureau urged the companies to review their practices to ensure HMDA compliance and to report to the bureau on their progress.
