CUs: Understand, address cybersecurity threats with these resources

NAFCU's most recent Economic & CU Monitor report revealed that credit unions are more concerned about cyber risks in recent years and the issue receives heightened focus in October, which is recognized as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) has a variety of resources available to help credit unions effectively address cyber threats.
During NAFCU's Congressional Caucus last month, NCSC Director Bill Evanina updated attendees on threats facing credit unions – both physically and digitally – and encouraged executives to meet regularly with their information security officers to better understand what the firm is doing to protect private data.
"You are often times the victim, we are asking you to be part of the solution," said Evanina during the presentation.
The NCSC has a collection of training series, videos, reports, and brochures designed to increase understanding of cyber risks and attacks, including:
- cyber-training series - Cyber Explore, Cyber Aware, Cyber Exploits;
- "Know the Risk, Raise Your Shield" - tips for protecting sensitive information and assets;
- supply chain risk management materials; and
- resources to protect your organization from insider threats.
As a leader in calling for national data security standards, NAFCU has resources available to ensure credit unions can effectively identify and address cybersecurity concerns, including online compliance resources and an on-demand webinar.
