Feb. 28, 2013 – The Senate on Wednesday voted 71-26 to confirm Jack Lew, the president's former chief of staff, as Treasury secretary.

Lew succeeds Tim Geithner, who left the post in late January. Treasury Deputy Secretary Neal Wolin has been filling the post in acting capacity in the interim.

Lew was nominated to be the next Treasury secretary this January and testified in a confirmation hearing about a month later by the Senate Finance Committee. The committee cleared his nomination late Tuesday on a vote of 19-6.

NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker met with Lew last May during a cooperative summit at the White House. Lew called credit unions an important source of capital for small businesses.
