December webcasts: ADA compliance, employment law, payday lending

NAFCU is offering three webcasts in December: one discussing recent developments with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), one detailing the latest changes in employment laws, and one reviewing the CFPB's payday lending requirements and how the rule will impact credit unions.

Tuesday, Dec. 5, is the rescheduled date for the postponed webcast on ADA compliance, "Mitigating Risk: Recent Developments in ADA Accessibility Compliance for Credit Unions." During this webcast, credit union representatives will learn more about the law, website accessibility issues and how credit unions can mitigate risk.

Andy Keeney and John Bredehoft, partners at Kaufman & Canoles, P.C., will lead the ADA webcast. Executive officers, compliance and risk staff, attorneys, and human resource officers are encouraged to participate in this webcast. A link for registration will be available later this week on NAFCU's webcast page.

On Thursday, Dec. 7, "Hot Topics in Employment Law" will educate credit union attorneys, human resource officers, and compliance and risk staff on recent trends in federal, state and local employment law that could impact credit unions' operations. The webcast will also review training components for HR compliance and how to mitigate litigation risk.

Cristina Miller, a partner at Styskal, Wiese, & Melchione, LLP, will lead the employment law webcast. To learn more about webcast and register for it, click here. Those who register by Thursday can save $100.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, "CFPB Payday Lending" will provide an overview of the bureau's final payday lending rule, its requirements and how it will impact credit unions. During the webcast, lending, risk and compliance and attorney staff will learn how to assess a borrower's ability to repay loans according to the rule's provisions and how credit unions can structure short-term loan programs to stay compliant.

Veronica Madsen, an attorney with Howard & Howard, will lead the payday lending webcast. To learn more about webcast and register for it, click here. Those who register by Dec. 5 can save $100.

NAFCU's webcasts begin at 2 p.m. Eastern and are open to all credit unions, regardless of membership or charter type. Participants can earn NCCO, NCRM and CPA education credits for attending. Learn more about NAFCU's webcasts and register for them here.
