Citibank fined $25M for discriminatory lending

gavelThe Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has fined Citibank $25 million for violating the Fair Housing Act. In addition to the fine, the bank is set to reimburse 24,000 customers roughly $24 million.

In its consent order, the OCC said that Citibank "had certain control weaknesses related to its Relationship Loan Pricing (RLP) program," and, as a result, some eligible borrowers who did not receive the RLP benefit "were adversely affected on the basis of their race, color, national origin, or sex."

NAFCU has myriad resources related to home lending available on its website. The association also continues to advocate its core housing finance principles with Congress as it works on reforming the nation's housing finance system. NAFCU has also strongly opposed efforts to extend the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) to credit unions as credit unions have not engaged in the illegal and discriminatory practices of banks.
