NAFCU, trades meet with FCC on robocall concerns

Cell phoneNAFCU and several other financial services trade groups meet with staff from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr’s office Thursday to discuss issues related to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the commission’s efforts to combat illegal robocalls.

NAFCU and the trades are supportive of the FCC’s efforts to combat illegal robocalls and reiterated the need to ensure proposed measures do not prevent credit unions and other impacted businesses from sharing important, legitimate information with their members.

Of note, the trades again shared concerns about three factors from the FCC’s list that service providers should use to determine which calls are “highly likely to be illegal” and urged the FCC to require service providers to notify callers if they have been labeled as scam and provide opportunities to dispute the label. They also requested the FCC to prohibit the use of labels if the authenticity cannot be verified.

NAFCU has consistently engaged the FCC on robocalls and robotexts to ensure bad actors are stopped and credit unions can communicate with their members on time-sensitive matters.
