NCUA’s Hood hosts Capital Markets Symposium

Govt building columnsNCUA Board Member Rodney Hood is hosting a Credit Union Capital Markets Symposium today at the New York Stock Exchange to share insights on industry hot topics, including liquidity risks, the current interest rate ceiling, and use cases for subordinated debt and secondary capital.

The event begins at 11 a.m. Eastern and will be available via livestream.

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Rostin Behnam, Federal Home Loan Bank of New York President José González, and Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta President Kirk Malmberg will present at the symposium.

Additional details on the sessions and speakers can be found online.

Of note, many of these topics were addressed in the NCUA’s 2022 Annual Report. The NCUA Board recently finalized a rule to amend subordinated debt and grandfathered secondary capital regulations to accommodate a longer maximum maturity, and the board is expected to discuss interest rate ceiling issues during its meeting next week.

NAFCU continues to urge the agency to increase or move to a floating ceiling to ensure credit unions can lend effectively in the current interest rate environment. In the wake of recent bank failures, liquidity concerns have been top of mind – the association has a free webinar available on-demand to help credit unions evaluate their institution’s liquidity and other factors.
