NDAA awaits President Biden’s signature after House passage

CapitolThe House passed the fiscal year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Thursday, moving the bill to President Joe Biden’s desk for signature. The final legislation does not include several NAFCU-opposed provisions – a win for the credit union industry.

NAFCU’s advocacy team worked closely with lawmakers throughout the year, advocating on behalf of the industry to keep interchange legislation from being attached as an amendment to the both the Senate and House versions of the NDAA. Credit union members were also engaged, utilizing NAFCU’s Grassroots Action Center to fight back against harmful provisions.

In addition, the association fiercely opposed efforts to allow all banks to operate rent-free on military bases – an issue that goes alongside the industry’s yearly efforts to protect credit union nominal leases on military installations.

NAFCU will continue to advocate for credit union priorities in end-of-year legislative efforts. Stay tuned to NAFCU Today for the latest out of Washington.
