Nomination of NCUA Chairman Harper advances out of banking committee

CapitolThe nomination of current NCUA Board Chairman Todd Harper to serve a full term on the NCUA Board was advanced to the full Senate by the Senate Banking Committee in a 17-7 bipartisan vote while meeting in Executive Session on Wednesday. The full Senate will still need to consider the nomination for Harper to be confirmed.

The Senate Banking Committee met in October to discuss Harper's nomination. During the hearing, Harper detailed his priorities regarding climate change regulation, cybersecurity, and more.

Harper was nominated by President Joe Biden in August; his previous term on the NCUA Board ended in April of 2021 and he has been serving in a holdover capacity. If confirmed, Harper’s term would expire April 2027. The association will continue to monitor the status of Harper's nomination as the Senate continues its consideration.
