Krebs: phishing bomb scare hoax targets FIs
KrebsOnSecurity reports that financial institutions are being targeted by an email extortion scam. The emails claim that bombs have been planted inside the email recipient's building and will detonate unless a ransom is paid in bitcoin.
The emails appear to be targeting U.S. based financial institutions, according to sources, and the subject line reads, "I advise you not to call the police."
"I could see this spam campaign being extremely disruptive in the short run. There is little doubt that some businesses receiving this extortion email will treat it as a credible threat," noted Krebs.
